Journal Entry 5
Today is our “travel day”. We are making our way down the entire length of Florida to the city of Homestead. The expedition leaders have made arrangements for our group of 11 to use a rental home as our headquarters. We are on our way now.
We have discussed a many number of topics in our travel time, including an itinerary for the rest of our trip. As I hold the sheet of paper in my hands, I am reminded of just how busy I am going to be for the next few days. It is quite hard to believe that just yesterday I was in my own home wondering and dreaming about what the trip will hold. In reading the itinerary, I can’t help but wonder how we are going to see all we are planning to see in such a short amount of time. Many of my travel companions have said similar things to me and to others.
The drive down is long, but I am finding great enjoyment in the companionship of my fellow explorers. I am fortunate that we have nearly all been acquainted for some time now. This will only make the trip all the more enjoyable. With each mile we get closer to The Everglades, I am even more anxious and excited about our journey through the river of grass. I doubt that I would have ever had the nerve to travel to this land alone, so I am glad to be part of this adventure with my group of fellow explorers.
