Herpetology

This week we start diving into all of the -ologies! To start, the Greek root “-ology” means the science or study of something. The suffix “herp” means reptiles; therefore, herpetology means the study of reptiles! These animals include scaled creatures like snakes, lizards, crocodiles, alligators, and turtles. Examples of reptiles are shown in the images below!

Many zoos and aquariums have reptile houses or areas of their facilities dedicated to just scaly friends. The staff members that focus only on reptiles in zoos or aquariums are often called herpetologists
